Trex decking is made from about 50 percent recycled and reclaimed plastic and 50 percent reclaimed wood. The manufacturer claims the product will not rot or deteriorate because of insects or harsh weather, and resists damage from moisture and sunlight. MoistureShield Composite Decking (ebuild)

MoistureShield composite decking is made from 90 percent recycled materials, including pre-consumer kiln-dried oak mill waste, waste pallets, and construction debris. The plastics in the product include low- and high-density polyethylene from recycled milk jugs, grocery bags, detergent bottles, pallet wrap, and food packaging waste. Sensibuilt Cellular PVC Decking (ebuild)

Sensibuilt cellular PVC decking has a foamed PVC core with no fiber fillers. The product includes 27 percent pre-consumer recycled PVC from cutting scraps from PVC window trim and fascia boards, and 8 percent reclaimed PVC, the manufacturer says. The surface of the deck board is coated with Lumenite, an infrared, heat-reflecting material that the company says resists fading. The product comes with a 10-year warranty against staining and fading plus a limited lifetime warranty on materials. CorrectDeckCX (ebuild)

CorrectDeckCX is PVC-free and made from 60 percent hardwood fiber and 40 percent UV-stabilized polypropylene. The manufacturer claims the deck boards are resistant to rotting, staining, and fading, largely because of the recent addition of a top layer of virgin polypropylene--about 1 percent of the board--to shield it from moisture and protect it from weather and wear. The use of polypropylene instead of polyethylene makes the boards lighter than some competing products, the manufacturer claims, so they can span longer distances and withstand higher temperatures with less expansion and contraction. 877-332-5877.

Porch Planks (ebuild)

The maker recently announced that it's Azek Porch product joins Azek Deck on the list of products tested and classified by Underwriters Laboratories (UL) for use in California's Wildland Urban Interface (WUI) fire zones. WUI testing goes beyond that for standard A, B, or C fire ratings. Updated tests were created to reduce the speed and spread of fires from burning embers carried by winds that land on roofs, decking, or other surfaces. Cellular PVC Azek Porch Plank (ebuild)

The cellular PVC Azek Porch plank features a durable, easy-to-clean surface with the same moisture, stain, and scratch resistance as Azek Deck. "It still looks great after a year in the elements," Mike Sloggatt of Sloggatt Home Improvements in Levittown, N.Y., said in a testimonial. Installed with traditional woodworking tools, the 1x4 planks are up to 40 percent lighter than wood composites, says the maker, and do not require pre-drilling. Sensibuilt and Horizon Decking (ebuild)

Two decking products from Fiber Composites--Sensibuilt and Horizon--caught the judges' eyes. Fiberon Sensibuilt PVC decking uses Lumenite, a fusion-bonded surface technology boasting stain, scratch, fade, and mold resistance. Available with a 10-year stain- and fade-resistance warranty, it is moisture-, impact-, and slip-resistant, the firm says. "This product is easy to install and easy to maintain, meaning high profits and satisfied customers," one judge stated. Fiberon Horizon decking features PermaTech, a technology that chemically bonds the HDPE-and-wood-fiber decking with a resilient surface material that resists stains, fading, and mold, as well as scratches, termites, and harsh weather, says the manufacturer. The product's 20-year limited warranty "gives me and my clients a high level of confidence that Fiberon's promise of low-maintenance is reliable," George Drummond of Casa Decks of Virginia Beach, Va., said in a written statement.
