Dewalt Introduces Lightweight Rolling Table Saw Stand (ebuild)

DeWALT, a leading manufacturer of industrial power tools, announced the launch of its new heavy-duty rolling table saw stand (DW7440RS), providing professional contractors with a lightweight stand for improved portability and ease of use. Available in May 2008, the stand will also be available in a combo kit with the DW744X 10" compact tablesaw (DW744XRS). The combo kit provides end users with the lightest portable table saw/stand in it's class with a combined weight of 90lbs. This lightweight table saw is equipped with a 15A, 2,600 MWO motor designed to cut hardwood materials and has a patented Rack and Pinion fence system, which maintains blade to fence parallelism within 1/64".

Combination Miter/Table Saws (BUILDER Online)

It's my understanding that combination miter/table saws like the Felisatti NTF 250 RI and NTF 250 RP have been available in Europe for many years, but they haven't found their way to American job sites because their makers figured the cost was too high for the U.S. market. Fortunately, this thinking has changed, and the two saws — which seem perfect for many trim carpentry and hardwood flooring projects — are now available in the U.S. Both can miter and bevel a 2x6, and the attached table saw can rip 2-by stock. The NTF 250 RI costs $845 and the NTF 250 RP (shown) costs $795. 800/626-9012.

Tile Saw (Journal of Light Construction)

Most tile saws use a sliding table or a rail-mounted motor, both of which limit the size of tile that can be cut. Raimondi's 55-pound GS86 avoids such limitations because it's set up like a table saw. It has a built-in grinding wheel and a channel on the side for putting 45-degree bevels on tile edges. The whole rig comes in a sturdy plastic case not much bigger than a breadbox and costs about $1,500. 800/625-6686.

TOTT Editor's Choice Award Winner: 10-inch Portable Table Saw (BUILDING PRODUCTS Magazine)

Bosch. Whether they should or not, most contractors don't use blade guards for their table saw, which means a higher risk of injury. The 4100DG-09 10-inch portable table saw tackles this problem. Its Smart Guard system is modular and tool-free, so it's easier to remove and re-install a component. The see-through plastic blade guard's two-part split design allows each side to be raised independently. The saw also includes a digital readout rip fence, which allows for faster setup and greater precision, the company says. Cost: $679 (saw and Gravity Rise stand). 877-267-2499.

SHOXX, a Strong New Label in Diamond Blades for Stone Cutting (ebuild)

After six years of research and development, SHOXX technology reaches the diamond blades market. This worldwide patented innovation concerns a new segment production process that uses high-quality bonds developed in the automotive industry and now used for the first time in the diamond tool sector. Thanks to the strength of these bonds, the new SHOXX X20 disc cuts twice as fast as a standard blade and lasts twice as long as a top range blade.

MVP Award Winner: Premier Fusion General-Purpose Saw Blade (BUILDING PRODUCTS Magazine)

Freud America. Sometimes "general purpose" means doing many things, none of them very well. The Premier Fusion general-purpose saw blade, however, has been designed to cover the gamut from crosscuts and rips in hardwoods and softwoods to cuts in two-sided veneer and laminates. Not having to change blades "saves huge amounts of time," a judge noted. A double-grind tooth design helps the carbide blade cut smoothly so vibration is dampened. The nonstick coating prevents corrosion and gumming. The series features four sizes: 8-, 10-, 12-, and 14-inch. Cost: $99. 800-334-4107.
