- Outdoor Wood Preservative
- ebuild (9/24/2009)
- The company's Wolmanized L3 outdoor wood preservative is non-metallic and carbon-based. The biocides used in the preservative are known to degrade in soil, so they do not accumulate, the manufacturer says. Applied to wood, the treatment resists termites and fungal decay, and comes with a limited lifetime warranty. In addition, wood treated with Wolmanized L3 retains its natural color with no green tint. Wolmanized L3-treated wood is appropriate only for out-of-ground use. 678-627-2000.
- Deck Tension Tie
- ebuild (8/10/2009)
- Focusing on deck safety through strong guardrail-post and deck-to-house connections, the maker introduces the DTT2Z deck tension tie. The component connects the railing post back to the deck framing, not just to the rim joist, creating code-compliant guardrail reinforcement. The DTT2Z also can tie the deck to the house for a stronger ledger connection. 800.999.5099.
- Perimeter Deck Flashing

The material is used in conjunction with the maker's 1 1/2-inch ledger flashing, or 2 1/8-inch ledger flashing with Deck2Wall spacers to further protect the deck components from water damage. Available in 10-foot lengths and 11 colors to complement a range of decking products, EverFlashing comes in G185, Galvalume, stainless steel, and color-match aluminum. 800.550.1667.

- Build Strong and Stylish Porches
- PROFESSIONAL DECK BUILDER Online (6/22/2009)
- Unlike decks, porches provide shelter from rain and relief from sun. Screened, they keep out insects. The roof that makes it all possible raises the level of difficulty of the build, whether you're talking about engineering footings to handle extra loads, trimming out the walls and ceiling, or framing and shingling the roof itself. Even so, most of the skills required to build a porch you already use when you build a deck.

Deck Spacers- BUILDING PRODUCTS Magazine (5/18/2009)
- Deck Spacers clip onto joists in deck framing to help keep boards evenly spaced. Unlike a 16-penny nail, commonly used for spacing in wood decks, plastic Deck Spacers meet specific spacing requirements for composite decks, and also work well for redwood, cedar, and other woods. The maker says the spacers also act as a shield for the top of the deck joist and help shed debris and moisture away from the framing. Three colors are available. 800-999-5099.
Gardener's Drip Kit - BUILDING PRODUCTS Magazine (5/12/2009)
- The Gardener's Drip Kit includes all the connections, tubing, emitters, and tools necessary to install the drip irrigation system to an outdoor faucet or an underground irrigation system. The drip places water directly on the soil above the plants' roots, letting the water soak down to the roots-- reducing runoff and eliminating water waste, the company says. The kit is a reengineered version of the company's professional-grade drip components, so it is easier to install, the firm says. 800-724-6247.
Rain Barrels- BUILDING PRODUCTS Magazine (5/12/2009)
- The manufacturer's rain barrels are made from 20 pounds of recycled plastic or 110 pounds of oak, brass, and steel. The barrels have two spigots and connect directly to a home's rain gutter downspouts. A removable zinc irrigation spigot can attach to a regular garden hose and has a shut-off valve so the homeowner can leave it open for drip irrigation. The 58-gallon plastic rain barrel is fully enclosed for safety. The company's wooden whiskey barrels (shown) are reclaimed from Kentucky distilleries. 978-790-1816.
