- Trane introduces the highest-efficiency packaged units available. The new Trane XL16c packaged units are ENERGY STAR qualified, rated as high as 16.6 Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio (SEER)--the highest in the industry--and have sound levels as low as 70 db, not much louder than a normal conversation. Trane backs the XL16c line with a 20-year limited warranty on the heat exchanger, 10 years on the compressor and condenser coil, and five years on functional parts.

New Government Mandate Affects Home Cooling Systems- ebuild (10/3/2006)
- On January 23, 2006, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) raised the minimum allowable energy efficiency standard for new residential air conditioning systems from 10 to 13 seasonal energy efficiency ratio (SEER). The new mandate means that home cooling system manufacturers must now design products that comply with the 13 SEER rating. Homeowners are not required to replace existing units as a result of this mandate, though by doing so, they may shave up to 23 percent off their energy bill.
