  • Heat Pump Water Heater
  • ebuild (11/9/2009)
  • Rather than heating water with a conventional electric element, the HP-50 heat pump water heater transfers available heat from ambient air, intensifies it, and transfers it to the water, resulting in an Energy Factor of 2.0, which the firm says is more than twice the efficiency of standard tank water heaters. The 50-gallon unit offers three modes: Energy Saver, for the most efficient operation; Normal, which uses both heat pump and electric elements for times of peak demand; and Electric Heat Only, a temporary setting to ensure hot water availability. The water heater's slim profile, measuring 21 inches in diameter and 75 1/2 inches tall, allows for easier installation in tight spaces. 334-260-1500.
  • GE Turns Up the Heat on its Hybrid Water Heater
  • ebuild (11/6/2009)
  • Now that the new GE Hybrid Water Heater has been the first water heater to be Energy Star rated and first to be listed on the U.S. Department of Energy's website, it has reached yet another milestone. This new energy efficient heat pump electric water heater will reduce energy expenses up to 62 percent, saving as much as $320 annually on energy bills.
  • Solaraide Passive Solar Water Heater
  • ebuild (8/20/2009)
  • Utilizing convection, the Solaraide passive solar water heater operates without pumps or controllers. The units can be used alone or to supplement conventional hot-water systems by pre-warming the water. Solaraide's freeze-proof heat-transfer fluid absorbs and delivers heat energy, even on cold and overcast days, says the firm; the closed-loop setup also prevents freezing. A 47-gallon model and an 80-gallon model are available. Cost: 47-gallon, $3,800; 80-gallon, $4,900. 800-621-5622.

  • Rheem Residential Power-Vent Water Heaters to Offer Remote, Push-Button Control
  • ebuild (6/10/2009)
  • Consumers will soon enjoy remote, fingertip control of their domestic hot water from virtually anywhere inside the home. Rheem Water Heating recently announced that a wired remote control with a liquid crystal display screen (LCD) will be offered on its 40-gallon and 50-gallon, tall and short, power-vent gas-fired water heaters. Available in late July 2009, the remote-controlled water heaters will be Energy Star-compliant, displaying the insignia on the exterior of the units, which will be distinctively identifiable with its black top and bottom pans and white jacket.
  • Rheem Unveils Power Direct Vent Water Heaters That Meet Energy Star Requirements for Efficiency
  • ebuild (6/1/2009)
  • A new line of power direct vent (PDV), tank-type water heaters from Rheem Manufacturing Company is designed to meet the rigorous demands of today's tightly constructed new homes that seek to maximize both energy savings and air quality. Available in early July 2009, the units will be offered in 40- and 50-gallon sizes with both standard inputs and high inputs (40,000 to 65,000 BTU per hour).
  • Tankless Heating System
  • BUILDING PRODUCTS Magazine (5/29/2009)
  • The Tankless Heating System combines a tankless water heater with a hydronic air handler to deliver on-demand heat using the same source for both domestic hot water and space heating. For optimum heat output in both applications, a priority system temporarily shuts down the air handler during periods of high hot-water demand, preventing the unit from blowing cold air. 800-621-9419.
