- Q. I was getting leaks into my cathedral ceiling during heavy horizontal rains that blew into my ridge vent. So I sealed the ridge vent, but now I am worried that without topside ventilation I will get decay up there. So I suggest this: Take off whatever you sealed the ridge vent with, and nail a 1-by-5 baffle along the ridge vent opening, just 2 or 3 inches away from the opening, on both sides of the ridge.
