- Updates to the line of Cedar-Boards Insulated Siding include an enhanced double 4-inch rough cedar clapboard, and double 4 1/2-inch rough cedar Dutchlap. The profiles have been updated to align directly with the TrueTexture rough cedar texture and flat-face design of the single 7-inch and double 6-inch-wide CedarBoard styles. - Currently available in a 7/16-inch board in four widths, Microposite boards are constructed using a combination of lightweight Perlite “microspheres” and proprietary resins. The resulting material weighs 50% less than fiber-cement, while offering an R-value 3.5 times higher, the maker says. Closed-cell technology makes the siding water resistant. - Like concrete and glass, drywall has high embodied energy, says Steve Weiss, of Sunnyvale, Calif.-based drywall manufacturer Serious Materials. But his company has something different in mind. Its new EcoRock wallboard requires 90 percent less energy to produce because its core is made from "commonly available minerals with high recycled content" that essentially "bake themselves," he says.
