- CertainTeed Corporation is helping to make the world a little greener by donating its WeatherBoards FiberCement Siding to the Edwin H. McGee Center in North Wilkesboro, North Carolina, a facility designed to provide educational programs to the community about the proper utilization and preservation of renewable natural resources. CertainTeed donated 5,568 square feet of WeatherBoards FiberCement Siding to the facility which is named after North Carolina forester Edwin H. McGee. CertainTeed FiberCement Siding, which helps divert waste from landfills by using more than 30 percent recycled fly ash in its product formulation, contributes to the green design of the building.

- Jul. 4--LOYSVILLE -- An Amish businessman in rural Perry County is taking construction castaways and turning them into profit instead of waste. Over the past year, Fisher said, he has recycled about 40,000 pounds of vinyl house siding, almost all of it coming from area construction sites. And with housing construction comes waste -- waste that typically needs to be hauled away.

- Jun. 16--RALEIGH -- It doesn't take a meteorologist to predict that if a hurricane rips a two-by-four off one house and throws it into the window of another that the glass will probably break and rain will pour in. The question the N.C. Building Code Council has been grappling with is how far homebuilders must go to guard against that kind of damage. The Federal Emergency Management Agency, which oversees federal relief efforts after hurricanes and other natural disasters, has threatened to withhold relief money from North Carolina if the building code council doesn't adopt the national standard protecting against wind-borne debris.
