  • SEATTLE -- A group of soldiers has been busy testing a series of high-tech military concept vehicles outfitted with remote weapons systems, night-vision capabilities and enough strength to sustain the concussion of a roadside bomb.The vehicles, while only in the concept stage, are part of the Army's $60 million program to modernize its aging tactical fleet for the challenges of today's military missions.He said the soldiers at Fort Lewis got their hands on two utility trucks and two maneuver sustainment vehicles Wednesday "to play with them and try to break 'em."

  • Hoping to give its vehicles an edge that could lead Chrysler back to profits, the automaker announced Thursday that Sirius Satellite Radio will beam kids' TV shows into the rear entertainment systems of 2008 Chrysler minivans, SUVs and full-size cars.It's also the latest skirmish in the seesaw battle between Sirius and rival XM Satellite Radio for primacy in a market that doesn't yet support either company. Sirius will pipe Nickelodeon, Disney Channel and Cartoon Network to properly equipped 2008 Chrysler and Dodge minivans, Jeep Commander and Grand Cherokee SUVs, and Dodge Charger and Magnum and Chrysler 300 full-size cars.

  • DETROIT - DaimlerChrysler AG's Chrysler Group on Thursday announced limited satellite television service for its 2008 Dodge and Chrysler minivans and several other models, continuing its plan to turn the vans into family rooms on wheels.The company, which invented the minivan, is teaming with Sirius Satellite Radio Inc. to bring three channels - Nickelodeon, Disney Channel and Cartoon Network - to the next generation of minivans, as well as the 2008 Chrysler 300, Dodge Charger, Dodge Magnum, Jeep Commander and Jeep Grand Cherokee.Chrysler said it has the channels exclusively through the 2008 model year, after which Sirius can offer it to other partners.

  • Mar. 21--The new Toyota Tundra is as big and brawny as its domestic competitors, but it is not as safe, according to a recent government test. The 2007 Tundra pickup got four out of five stars on the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration's frontal crash test for both the driver and a passenger. Comparable versions of the 2007 Chevrolet Silverado, GMC Sierra, Ford F-150 and Dodge Ram got five-star ratings for both driver and passenger.

  • General Motors Corp.'s Envoy and Chevrolet TrailBlazer, the automaker's top-selling sport-utility vehicles, may develop fuel leaks from corrosion, a U.S. safety agency said in announcing an investigation.The inquiry covers 2002 to 2003 Envoy XL and XUV versions and TrailBlazer EXT models, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said on its Web site, citing 16 complaints about corrosion on fuel pump modules. The fuel pump module is located in the tank and could be exposed to air, causing corrosion and leaks, NHTSA said.
