  • Toyota's vaunted Lexus luxury brand has fallen from first to fifth in Consumer Reports magazine's annual predicted reliability survey. The automaker's Toyota brand and its youth-oriented Scion brand are in the top three along with Honda and its Acura, the magazine says in its April auto issue, on sale next week.Other luxury brands at the bottom: Land Rover, Hummer and Jaguar.

  • DETROIT -- Consumer Reports' latest auto reliability and survey rankings find overall domination by Japanese automakers, strides from the Detroit Three and stumbles from Europe.The findings, released Wednesday and featured in the magazine's April issue, are based on more than 250 tested vehicles and data collected from 1.3 million subscribers' vehicles.The list features vehicles that performed well in Consumer Reports' tests, have at least average predicted reliability and adequate performance in government and insurance industry crash protection tests.

  • Chrysler Group moved a step closer Tuesday to becoming first to bring Chinese-made cars to the USA.German parent DaimlerChrysler approved a deal to team with Chinese carmaking phenomenon Chery Motor to develop small cars that could be sold in the USA and Europe.If the Chinese government approves the deal as expected next month, Chrysler's Chinese-made cars could be on American roads within a couple of years, Chrysler spokesman Dave Elshoff says.
