Georgia-Pacific Gypsum and Quiet Solution Announce Paperless Soundproof Drywall

- Georgia-Pacific Gypsum LLC and Quiet Solution announced they have partnered on a paperless soundproof drywall panel. The new product, QuietRock DensArmor Plus 528, combines the moisture and mold resistance, fire resistance, abuse resistance and low indoor air emissions of paperless DensArmor Plus wallboard, with the proven noise reduction of QuietRock, the leading soundproof drywall. A single layer of the new product on a single wood stud wall provides an STC rating of 50 - a noise reduction of 75 percent compared to many other interior wall systems. QuietRock DensArmor Plus 528 is 5/8" thick, Type X equivalent, UL-classified, contains no metal inside the panel, and installs in the same manner as standard drywall.

USG SHEETROCK Tools Revolutionize Mixing of Joint Compound with Professional Mud Mixer

- United States Gypsum Company recently announced the introduction of the SHEETROCK brand Professional Mud Mixer as part of its line of premium drywall installation tools. This unique new tool for mixing joint compound facilitates quick mixing while minimizing the spinning and shaking of the bucket, and reducing spills and splatters. Made of a durable heavy gauge steel construction, the Mud Mixer consists of a 30 inch shaft followed by four S-shaped mixing blades. Because it is balanced, and self-centering, this mud mixer is easier to operate, mixes up to 20 percent faster than conventional mixers and minimizes bucket gouge.

- National Gypsum is showcasing the newest solution to the noisy-neighbor problem - its Gold Bond BRAND SoundBreak Gypsum Board - at the national convention of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) in San Antonio this week. Laboratory testing has shown that SoundBreak, which installs and finishes just like traditional gypsum board, can achieve Sound Transmission Class (STC) ratings of 55 or above in most wall assemblies.

FIBEROCK Brand AQUA-TOUGH Products Receive TCNA Approval

- The Tile Council of North America (TCNA) recently added fiber-reinforced gypsum panels to its listing of recognized substrates for wet areas in residential and light-construction applications. This new development and recognition includes USG's FIBEROCK brand AQUA-TOUGH interior panels, tile backerboard and underlayment. All three products exceeded requirements for TCNA "wet areas," with performance advantages such as ease of installation, no delamination risk and integral water/mold resistance. Prior to this approval, fiber-reinforced gypsum panels were only recognized for limited wet areas, not shower and tub surrounds.
