Bradford White Through-the-Wall Water Heaters Now Feature The Defender Safety System

Beginning July 1, 2006, many Bradford White power-vented, through-the-wall water heaters will be manufactured with the Defender Safety System®. This change will comply with new ANSI standards regarding Flammable Vapor Ignition resistance. The new TTW® water heaters feature a different version of the highly successful Defender Safety System combustion and control system. This includes a new spark-to-pilot ignition system and an integrated immersion gas control valve with an LED indicator to assist in troubleshooting. An electronic sensor has also been included to prevent operation if flammable vapors are detected. The blower motor of the TTW® unit has also been modified to offer better resistance to outside winds and to eliminate venting problems.

Manufactured with the Defender Safety System

The Bradford White Defender Safety System® featuring ScreenLok® Technology is well known across the plumbing industry as an extremely safe, reliable and maintenance-free flammable-vapor ignition resistant system. The patented flame-arrestor plate design produces a vector effect that prevents flames from traveling outside the combustion chamber.

The Defender design will be incorporated into residential 40 and 50-gallon TTW®1 models and also into 50 and 65-gallon TTW®2 models. TW4 light duty commercial models in 50 and 65-gallon capacities will also feature the new combustion technology.
