LP and Andersen Team Up to Manufacture New Deck RailingCompanies sign licensing deal to use Fibrex material technology

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Jan. 3, 2007 -- Louisiana-Pacific Corporation (LP) and Andersen Corporation announced today they are teaming up to manufacture the newly redesigned LP® WeatherBest® Crystal White™ Railing using Andersen's patented Fibrex® material technology. "Our alliance is a unique combination of two industry leaders who each bring considerable expertise to the table," said Linda Kerechek, brand manager of LP's Outdoor Living business. "This collaboration will result in a superior product, and it makes a strong statement about our commitment to WeatherBest distributors and dealers."

Manufacturing of the railing product is underway with distribution to customers slated for early 2007. "We've received tremendous support from distributors and dealers who are eager to carry Crystal White Railing and who are familiar with the proven Fibrex material technology," added Kerechek. Andersen has been an industry leader in composite materials for more than 30 years. Fibrex material is a revolutionary structural composite that blends the very best attributes of thermoplastics and bio-fibers. In use since 1993 for a variety of structural applications, its strength and durability have been field-proven, even in extreme weather and environmental conditions.

Crystal White Railing's proprietary design has been updated with a more sturdy appearance and increased strength. The post sleeve is now 5 inches by 5 inches, offering consumers many post cap choices currently available in the marketplace. Also, a 114-inch post sleeve option can be cut into three standard heights, resulting in less waste. Crystal White Railing's bright white finish and texture simulates freshly painted wood. It is offered in 6- and 8-foot kits with two top rail choices: a rounded colonial top and a new flat top. "We are excited about the new flat top design, a feature that can be a big convenience to a homeowner hosting a barbecue, because it provides a place to rest beverages while socializing," said Kerechek.

LP put a strong emphasis on customer input in the redesign of Crystal White Railing. "We conducted two series of focus groups with contractors, dealers and consumers to solicit feedback prior to the redesign," said Kerechek. "We incorporated these changes during the engineering process and went back to focus group participants with the new product to validate the changes." Some of those features include stronger stainless steel hardware, hinged corner brackets, countersunk holes for easy drilling and better alignment and simpler installation instructions.
