    ATLANTA (Aug. 24, 2006) - In 1989, PORTER-CABLE introduced its first joinery system, the Omnijig™, to help woodworkers produce dovetail joints easier and faster. Continuing its innovation of the Omnijig™, today PORTER-CABLE introduced two new Omnijig Joinery System® dovetail jigs, 16-inch model 55160 and 24-inch model 77240, at its 100th Anniversary event and booth #5413 at the 2006 International Woodworking Fair (IWF) in Atlanta.

    New Omnijig Joinery System Dovetail Jigs Create Professional Joints and Mortises

    24-Inch, Model 77240

    The new Omnijig Joinery System® dovetail jigs can precisely cut joints for drawers or chests, and cut mortise and tenons for furniture construction. The easy-to-use systems utilize patent-pending features such as template alignment pins to help ensure woodworkers get accurate cuts repeatedly with no test cuts, and router bit depth-stops to make setting the depth of the router bit simple. Color-coded instruction labels provide woodworkers with the information to create a variety of cuts with less time and preparation. Since the systems are designed to create accurate cuts the first time, they prevent woodworkers from wasting materials and time.

    Both systems are fully assembled from the factory and have cam locks to hold the wood firmly in place and heavy-duty bases to increase stability. Easily mountable, the systems are built to be used on a workbench and stored compactly while not in use.

    16-Inch, Model 55160
    The 16-inch Omnijig Joinery System®, model 55160, is ideal for small professional woodworking shops and cabinet shops. It allows woodworkers to cut accurate joints repeatedly with consistency because the alignment of the jig will not change during cutting - ensuring that each cut is the same as the last.

    Featuring multiple accessory templates including a reversible template for cutting halfblind and through dovetails, the system also has a stability bar for improved accuracy, and dust deflection. In addition, an accessory dust chute will be available that can be connected to a dust collector to provide maximum dust control.

    The 55160 will be available in May 2007 for approximately $399. The additional mortising template, model 55162, will be available for approximately $249.

    24-Inch, Model 77240
    The 24-inch Omnijig Joinery System®, model 77240, is ideal for small professional woodworking shops and serious woodworkers. It provides woodworkers with the ability to cut a wide variety of joints, including mortise and tenons. In fact, the system provides woodworkers with the capability to create more joints than any other jig in the market due to the variable-space template which can create multiple looks including hand-cut dovetails and the multi-height halfblind attachment.

    The system has quick-adjust guides for creating different size mortise and tenons, t-slots and clamps on the jig face for easy wood positioning and new, patent-pending easy-to-change template guides for fast changeovers. The dual-sided frame of the system provides increased stability, and the system can be mounted easily onto a large piece of wood for cases where wood cannot be clamped to the jig. It also features a storage solution for bits, a stability bar for improved accuracy, a heavy-duty base, cam locks for work piece stability, and dust collection capability.

    The Omnijig Joinery System®, model 77240, will be available in May 2007 for approximately $549. The additional mortising template, model 77242, will be available for approximately $299.
