HomerWood Introduces Character Grade Premium Engineered Wood Floors

For the first time, HomerWood® Hardwood Flooring brings its premium hand-scraped collection not only into the home... but throughout the house. A new collection of prefinished Character Grade® and Amish Hand-Scraped™ engineered floors that can be installed on any level of the home are now available with the same distinctive visuals and craftsmanship as HomerWood's much-admired solid floor collection.

HomerWood Character Grade Hickory Natural - Kitchen

Hand-scraped hardwood floors have become a popular choice in today's upscale homes, and now discerning consumers can select a high-quality HomerWood floor for any room.

"It's really an 'installation' story," says Tyrone Johnson, general manager, HomerWood. Engineered floors offer dimensional stability on any level of the home. While engineered wood is real wood, instead of one solid piece it consists of multiple thin layers of wood, called plies, which are assembled and glued in a cross-ply construction. HomerWood engineered floors are thicker than most, with a four-mil face. Due to its multi-ply structure, engineered wood is much more stable than solid wood and is less susceptible to shrinking and expanding with changes in temperatures and humidity, so that it offers more installation options. Standard engineered hardwood can be glued, stapled or "floated" on wood, concrete or existing subfoors; solid floors need to be nailed to a wood subfloor. Solid wood is just that - one piece that is milled from lumber - and, unlike engineered, offers the ability to sand and refinish if necessary.

Character Grade® is unique. HomerWood uses the word "Character" to describe the flooring because the wood's inherent characteristics - the very fingerprints of nature - have been beautifully and reassuringly preserved. The unique Character Grade engineered floors contain natural wood characteristics such as knots, cracks and color variations in Oak, Hickory and Black Walnut in different colors, finishes and popular wide-width planks.

The elegant floors include both clear and character planks that reflect the best attributes of the natural wood, in a smooth, satin finish or a handcrafted, hand-scraped surface, in either solid or engineered construction.

The overall surface board thickness in the engineered construction is 5/8" thick, and planks come in one through seven foot random lengths, with micro-beveled edges for a smooth appearance. Standard widths are four and five inches, and a custom three-inch or six-inch width also is available through special order.

Amish Hand-Scraped™ Flooring is a special collection of Character Grade flooring that offers a truly authentic handcrafted look because it is hand-scraped by Pennsylvania Dutch craftsmen. New planks are hand-sculpted, one at a time, to create unique custom flooring of timeless originality and distinction. Unlike most of today's machine-distressed flooring, no two planks are alike and each bears the signature of the proud craftsman who created it. HomerWood's Amish Hand-Scraped™ Engineered Collection is available in prefinished and unfinished wood that includes Hickory, Black Walnut and Red Oak.

The engineered smooth, satin finish products retail for about $7.00-$10.00 per square foot, uninstalled; the hand-scraped engineered products retail for approximately $15.00-$18.00 per square foot, uninstalled.
