Cabinetry at K/BISNew styles and late-breaking trends from the showroom floor.
- By Jeffrey Lee
It won't come as a huge surprise that bath manufacturers like Kohler and American Standard are offering easy-to-assemble bath vanities. It's a little more surprising that Yorktowne Cabinetry is doing the same thing. The manufacturer's assembled vanities are pre-built, decreasing installation time. Though the company is currently offering only one leg style, it offers the vanities with 50 door styles and over 150 finish options, and plans to expand the leg style options. A cabinet manufacturer can offer better drawer, hardware, and warranty options, and longer-lasting construction than bath manufacturers, representatives from the company told me.
One of the cabinet trends I saw at the show was the popularity of warm brown finishes. Wellborn Cabinet introduced a sable finish this year, which offers a warm brown tone with a low sheen, the maker says. It is available as a standard finish on all wood species because it does not include a glaze. The finish just debuted in January, a representative of the company told me, and it's already selling fast. Wellborn also introduced the Sonoma Maple door style, a full overlay miter door style with a solid wood reversed flat panel. It offers an eclectic look that can go with traditional or contemporary decor.

I liked a new door style from Quality Cabinets that can also fit in with a variety of decorative styles. The Sableton style features a recessed beadboard door panel that provides both strong lines to complement a room's decor and grooves to hold a variety of glazes. It's ideal for country or cottage settings, the manufacturer says, but I could see its vertical lines fitting in well even in modern, sleek-looking kitchen. The style is available in maple and cherry, and in a new five-piece drawer front option that provides a more detailed look usually associated with custom cabinetry.
