Therma-Tru Offers the Ultimate Entry Door and Patio System for Performance and StyleGiving Homeowners a "Tru-Defense" Against Harsh Weather Conditions
MAUMEE, OHIO (Feb. 7, 2007) -- A beautiful door can add a welcoming feel to any home, but it takes the right entry or patio door to perform in harsh weather and high traffic from family and pets. Performance often hinges on the quality design and construction of the door and its components, from high-quality materials that withstand heat, rain and cold, to advanced engineering that virtually eliminates air and water infiltration. Now, builders and remodelers have a solution to damaging weather and harsh conditions with the new Tru-Defense™ System for entry and patio doors. Tru-Defense integrates high performance with beautiful styling to provide the best of form and function.

Therma-Tru's new Tru-Defense System
Tru-Defense is the new standard in high performance doors, components and certified systems, designed to work together to protect homes from severe weather. Therma-Tru's Tru-Defense entry and patio doors have an air, water and structural performance rating of DP-40 or higher. The complete door systems are independently tested, and certified by the National Accreditation and Management Institute (NAMI).
The DP-40 rating indicates that the unit passed a structural test pressure of 60 lbs. per sq.ft. equal to 150 mph winds and a water penetration test under conditions equal to 8" of rain per hour driven by 49 mph winds; and an air infiltration test pressure of 1.57 lbs. per sq.ft. equal to 25 mph winds.
"Therma-Tru's new Tru-Defense Systems are built with the highest quality components available and are engineered to work and fit together perfectly to form the tightest seal possible," says Jim McElroy, general manager, product marketing, Therma-Tru Doors. "The Tru-Defense System provides builders with confidence that they, in turn, extend to their homeowners. They know their doors can handle the worst Mother Nature has to offer."
New Tru-Defense System components offer the following features:
• High Dam Sill with composite construction and counter sunk screws provides flush contact with the door bottom to seal out air and water. New satin nickel finish coordinates with door hardware. Sill cover is included for protection during construction.
• Door Bottom Sweep has dual bulbs with dual fins that sit tightly on the sill to prevent air and water infiltration.
• Rain Deflector repels water away from all sealing components on Tru-Defense Patio Door Systems.
• Astragal with dual-durometer triple seal boot design secures the patio door tightly to the sill while providing a superior seal between the door panels. It provides exceptional durability and won't break down over time.
• Corner Seal Pads with new innovative design (patent pending) create a pocket that effectively prevents air and water infiltration.
• Multi-Point Locks add greater security and stability for enhanced door system performance while helping to fight water infiltration.
Tru-Defense Impact Products for Entry Doors
For protection against severe weather, including hurricane-force winds, driving rain and flying debris, Therma-Tru is launching a new line of impact rated entry products -- Tru-Defense Lip-Lite Impact Rated Glass and Tru-Defense Opaque Impact Rated Doors.
Tru-Defense Lip-Lite Impact Rated Glass has an attractive scrolled frame design made of durable light-weight aluminum and is available for Therma-Tru's 6'8" and 8'0" Fiber-Classic®, Smooth-Star® and Steel door lines. The frame's width is unobtrusive compared to other industrial-type frames and it features a patented screw channel cover that hides unsightly screws giving the door a cleaner appearance. Homeowners can choose from a wider selection of hardware styles because the frame allows for extra room between the frame and the lockset.
In areas that are threatened by high velocity winds, Tru-Defense Opaque Impact Rated fiberglass doors will stand secure. Opaque Impact Rated Doors have the highest structural ratings and a patent pending design that includes a steel plate underneath the skin for added strength and rigidity. The doors are tough enough to withstand wind-borne debris and have been approved for installation in High Velocity Hurricane Zones (HVHZ). What's more, the high-performance fiberglass door panels won't warp, crack, rot, swell or split like wood doors, or rust, ding or dent like aluminum and steel.
All of this performance is packaged in a collection of Therma-Tru's attractive fiberglass doors. Depending on the architectural style of the home, builders, remodelers and homeowners can select from a range of looks within the Classic-Craft® Rustic, Oak and Mahogany Collections developed with Therma-Tru's proprietary AccuGrain™ Technology or from its other Fiber-Classic and Smooth-Star lines. Within these product lines, Therma-Tru offers 6'8" and 8'0" tall systems.
Tru-Defense Systems for Hinged and Sliding Patio Doors
The Fiber-Classic® Hinged Patio Doors offer an exterior wood grain look, while the interior is ready to stain or paint. Smooth-Star® Hinged Patio Doors feature a smooth, crisp surface that rivals the look of fine painted wood. The interior can be painted any color to match your décor. Both provide the guaranteed performance that makes Therma-Tru fiberglass entry doors the most preferred brand in the industry.
Therma-Tru's new Tru-Defense systems for fiberglass hinged patio doors are designed to work together as an integrated system, a feature that most other door manufacturers do not offer. All the components in the new Tru-Defense systems maximize the seal between the door and the frame, virtually eliminating air and water infiltration.
Fiber-Classic and Smooth-Star Patio Door Systems offer the ultimate in style, performance and durability. Both are available in a wide variety of sizes for new construction and remodeling, including 6'6", 6'8" and 8'0" tall systems. They come in four factory finished exterior colors: White, Almond, Stone and Bronze. All Tru-Defense hinged patio doors feature standard flush-glazed Low-E glass, high-heat composite frame, and other new components such as the high dam sill with Satin Nickel finish, astragal, corner sill pad, door bottom sweep and multi-point locking system, that are all designed to maximize the seal between the door and the frame. Optional adjustable hinges and profiled internal grid patterns or external grilles are available as well.
Fiber-Classic Hinged Patio Doors offer a full system lifetime limited warranty and Smooth-Star Hinged Patio Doors are backed by a full system 20-year limited warranty. This new line of Tru-Defense Hinged Patio Systems includes single, center-hinged, jamb-hung or French door configurations.
In early 2005, Therma-Tru Doors introduced a line of Fiber-Classic and Smooth-Star Sliding Patio Door Systems that have an air, water and structural performance rating of DP-40 or higher, and are available in 6'6", 6'8" and 8'0" heights with 4-panel configurations in widths up to 12'0".
