QuickScribe Router Attachment Saves Time and Money Scribing Without the Hassle
(SAN JOSE, Calif. April 24, 2007) - Walls and edges seldom fit squarely against a new countertop, cabinet or panel. Bends and bows can turn any surface installation into a time-consuming battle for perfection. That is why Bill Friegang, owner of the San Jose-based Custom Design Cabinets, invented the patented QuickScribe™, ScribeMate™ and Euroscriber® scribing tools.

The QuickScribe
The QuickScribe and ScribeMate are trim router accessory plates that attach to several popular routers, including Bosch, DeWalt and Porter Cable brands. These new accessories center the router's bit in a wheel that attaches via a plate to the bottom of the router.
"Basically, I'm a lazy guy. I don't like working that hard and I'm always looking for an easier way to do difficult, time-consuming jobs," said Friegang. "Having the right tools also makes doing the work a little more fun."
The QuickScribe uses a non-marking and non-sticking wheel to glide freely against the wall or placement surface. The wheel keeps a constant distance of one inch from the wall to the cut.
"The wheel follows the wall guiding the router, while the router does the cutting for you," Friegang explained. "It saves quite a bit of time from the old method. This system eliminates the need of masking tape, scriber tools and belt sanders."
"When installing a large piece in a small room, this tool saves the wall from possible scuffs and saves you from having to lift the piece out to whittle it down and then lift it to put it back in again. And with a precise fit, there is no need to caulk," Friegang noted.
For more complex, multi-sided placement, or to follow curved surfaces, a template should be cut using the QuickScribe. Use the ScribeMate with a bigger router to follow the template and cut the finish materials. "It basically puts the inch back on that the QuickScribe takes off," Friegang added. "This works great for wall-to-wall situations or odd shapes."
The QuickScribe can also be used to create perfectly-fitting Euro Style or frameless cabinets. Friegang has developed a special clamp tool called the Euroscriber designed to hold the cabinets' scribe strips one inch from the wall.
Then the Quickscribe can be used to cut the scribe strip to match the wall's irregularities. The resulting scribe strips will fit tight to the walls when inserted into the space between the cabinet end and the wall.
