Ann Sacks Announces Labyrinth Tile Collection by Designer Michael S Smith

PORTLAND, Ore. (May 8, 2007) - Designer Michael S Smith is known for his inventive style of mixing Old World classicism with modernist interiors. Labyrinth, Smith's new collection of ceramic tile for ANN SACKS is no exception. "I wanted something that was both clean and geometric but with a sense of history," says Smith. "The Labyrinth patterns were influenced by Moorish gardens and mazes -- things that have a certain rhythm to them, but that also have a kind of romantic feel."

Labyrinth tiles all have a deep relief and when used in a bathroom, give the sense of enveloping the bath and wrapping it in pattern much like wallpaper would. Yet they still have Smith's hallmark clean and understated aesthetic.

Smith's approach to the color palette was to choose pleasing colors that are warm but still easy to use. Most importantly, he wanted colors that would "look really good with white."
