Eco-Friendly Countertops: Craft-Art Recycles Old Wood
ATLANTA (May 2007) - Craft-Art is pleased to announce its use of reclaimed wood for a growing percentage of its custom wood countertops. By reusing materials from old mills, barns, river bottoms, and swamps, the company has made a conscious effort to preserve the Earth's natural resources.
"Wood is one of the most durable, long lasting materials on Earth. Our company decided to reuse and preserve this beautiful resource by creating an attractive wood countertop," comments Ken Williamson, founder and CEO of the Craft-Art Company, Inc.

Craft-Art's Antique Heart Pine
Craft-Art's Antique Heart Pine countertop (shown here) is an exquisite surface derived from used wood, making it "green." This exceptional craftsmanship complements luxurious, environmentally-friendly homes.
As a natural material, wood evolves and becomes more enhanced over time. Through this aging process, the Antique Heart Pine is able to showcase the wood's splendid untreated elements.
The color and grain of this wood countertop has a yellow-brown straw color with reddish brown accent rings. Craft-Art uses only beam material that is re-sawn which makes the wood grain vertical. This "quarter-sawn" technique highlights the tight-grain wood texture and creates a unique surface.
The vast majority of the Antique Pine used is southern long leaf yellow pine that was constructed to build the thousands of mills throughout the south. About Craft-Art:
Founded by Ken Williamson in 1998, Craft-Art Wood Countertops has quickly established itself as the industry leader in wood countertops. All wood countertops are available in a selection of more than 20 different wood species and construction styles, and are enduringly beautiful, durable and easy to maintain.
Craft-Art only uses FAS and first European quality lumber in the countertops. The company will source other exotic and domestic woods upon request if they are not endangered. In addition, all lumber is hand selected and matched to highlight grain, color and texture. Tops are available in plank and edge-grain style using full-length boards, or end-grain style, which creates a checkerboard-type pattern.
