GreenGuard Product Line Adds DC4 Drainage Board Pactiv's building products division unveils the first extruded polystyrene fanfold underlayment with drainage channels

    ATLANTA (July 31, 2007) - Placing secondary weather barriers behind exterior cladding maximizes a home's protection against moisture and mold damage. Pactiv Corporation's building products division is revolutionizing the weather resistive barrier market by introducing GreenGuard® DC14 Drainage Board--a secondary weather barrier with no water absorption and practically unrestricted drainage.

    Both sides of DC14 are designed with large channels that allow the flow and escape of trapped water behind brick, stucco or vinyl. Eliminating water accumulation that can be hazardous to wall sheathing or pre-existing siding, the large channels also allow for ventilation to dry out any excess moisture and residue.

    "Superior weather resistive barriers can protect structures from damaging environmental effects," said Dan Partrich, marketing manager for Pactiv's building products division, which manufactures GreenGuard products. "Without a secondary weather barrier, structures are more prone to water damage seeping in through exterior cladding. GreenGuard DC14 Drainage Board is a different approach to eliminating excess water and saving wall systems from harm by water, moisture, mildew and mold."

    DC14 is made of extruded polystyrene (XPS) material, which has a closed-cell structure that makes it impervious to moisture absorption. Additionally with a 1.0 R-Value, DC14 helps increase the energy efficiency of a wall system.

    DC14 is especially effective behind claddings that fasten tightly to the wall sheathing. It provides an excellent drainage system for fiber cement, wood and foam-backed vinyl siding. Behind stucco and stone cladding, it functions as the drainage component of two-layer weather resistive barrier systems.

    When installed following GreenGuard weather resistive barrier installation instructions, DC14 meets weather resistive barrier requirements and does not require an additional housewrap. DC14 is available in a convenient fanfold configuration with an overlap area at the top and bottom, and can be installed using common plastic cap nails, roofing nails or pneumatic staples.
