Across the Board, Timber Products Facilities Go GreenAll plywood and particleboard plants produce environmentally certified materials
Aug. 7, 2007 - SPRINGFIELD, Ore. - When it comes to offering certified wood products to meet the growing demand for green cabinets, Timber Products Company continues to raise the bar. Timber Products announced that every one of its hardwood plywood and particleboard plants is now third-party certified to meet the Kitchen Cabinet Manufacturers Association (KCMA) Environmental Stewardship Program (ESP) standards.

Timber Products Go Green
"I applaud KCMA's leadership for developing an excellent environmental program. Cabinetmakers are increasingly utilizing sustainable materials to fulfill the growing market demand for green products," said Timber Products Vice President Roger Rutan. "All our facilities are now qualified under the KCMA guidelines, so cabinet producers can be assured that 100 percent of our panels will help them meet Environmental Stewardship Program requirements."
Last month Timber Products' Medford, Ore., particleboard plant achieved Environmentally Preferable Product certification from the Composite Panel Association, thus qualifying the facility for KCMA recognition as well.
The Medford particleboard plant joins the company's hardwood plywood facilities in Grants Pass, Ore., Medford, Ore., and Corinth, Miss., as ESP-approved manufacturing sites.
To be recognized under ESP, particleboard, MDF and hardwood plywood manufacturers must show third-party certification that verifies air quality (low-formaldehyde-emitting composite wood), resource management and environmental stewardship standards. Timber Products facilities are third-party certified by the Composite Panel Association and the Hardwood Plywood Veneer Association.
Environmental leadership
The KCMA designation is yet another example of Timber Products' commitment to producing environmentally sustainable materials. The company recently introduced its new GreenT™ line of hardwood panels that are manufactured with certified wood fiber and a special resin that meets most green building requirements, including LEED® and the strict California Air Resources Board formaldehyde regulations.
GreenT™ Hardwood Plywood is available with an MDF, veneer or particleboard core. The GreenT™ line also includes a panel with a hardwood face and decorative overlay back, a two-sided decorative overlay panel, raw particleboard panels and particleboard door core panels.
In addition, the company responsibly stewards 118,000 acres of forest under the strict standards of the Sustainable Forestry Initiative® (SFI) program and was the first hardwood plywood manufacturer in the world to carry the SFI label. Certification by the Forest Stewardship Council is underway and planned for completion in fall 2007. All materials sourced from the company's land are audited and certified as environmentally sustainable, ensuring healthy forests for future generations.
