DaVinci Slate Earns Influential Miami-Dade Acceptance Code office confirms compliance for Florida's high velocity hurricane zones.
KANSAS CITY, Kans., July 30, 2007 - DaVinci Roofscape's Slate roofing shingles have achieved another huge milestone by gaining acceptance from Florida's prestigious Building Code Compliance Office (BCCO). On July 12, 2007, the BCCO issued a Notice of Acceptance (NOA) for DaVinci's line of synthetic slate shingles, certifying that they comply with the rigorous Florida Building Code, including the High Velocity Hurricane Zone section. The acceptance is valid for five years.

DaVinci Slate
Acceptance by Miami-Dade - considered one of the toughest compliance offices in the country - has far-reaching implications for use of DaVinci Slate, not just in Florida but well beyond the Sunshine State. The acceptance will make it easier for contractors, architects and designers to receive approvals and build or remodel roofs using DaVinci's engineered polymer faux slate shingles.
"Gaining acceptance from the Miami-Dade BCCO means a great deal," said Tim Gentry, DaVinci's director of technical services. "It means that roofing contractors and homeowners everywhere have another proven reason to trust the reliability and safety of a DaVinci roof, because it has been subjected to one of the most demanding evaluation processes out there; maybe the hardest." Because of the acceptance, DaVinci Slate can now be labeled, "Miami-Dade County Product Control Approved."
Gentry said the BCCO acceptance means that, when installed according to DaVinci guidelines and certain specifications, DaVinci Slate has been qualified to be installed in 150 mph wind areas - approaching the top end of a Category Four hurricane on the Saffir/Simpson scale. The acceptance specifies that the maximum allowable uplift pressure be -118.5 psf and that each shingle must have a maximum of six inches of exposure. "All roofs are different and need to be evaluated individually," Gentry noted, "but, for example, DaVinci Slate would be approved for 150 mph on most residential roofs."
Miami-Dade BCCO acceptance requires a complex and detailed testing and application process, and evidence of passing a long list of product tests performed by independent agencies. These tests include TAS 100, TAS 110, TAS 125, ASTM D635, ASTM D1929, ASTM D2843 and ASTM G26.
"We're very proud of the Miami-Dade acceptance," said DaVinci president and CEO Raymond Rosewall. "It shows that the most stringent product evaluators have proven the safety and durability of our next-generation shingles. Our customers and dealers can specify DaVinci Slate and know that it meets the most rigorous building codes. They can rest assured that our slate will perform reliably and that no problems will delay installation, even in the most exacting or exclusive communities."
Lower Cost and Maintenance Freedom Too
DaVinci Slate and Shake also offer substantial cost-savings compared to traditional solutions. Costs are saved initially, and over the roof's entire lifespan. Professional contractors can install DaVinci roofs with little training and no special labor, so installations are predictable and hassle-free, saving everyone time and money. And DaVinci roofs are practically maintenance free. Shingles don't curl, fade or crack.
There's no treating required and no termites, silverfish or mold to eradicate. They won't absorb water, so there are no freeze-thaw issues. In fact, homeowners can save at least half the installed cost of quarried slate or rough-hewn cedar over the life of the roof. "When building and remodeling pros compare the benefits of a DaVinci roof with any other alternative," says Rosewall, "they quickly see why we should always be considered. Miami-Dade acceptance is one more reason to consider at us."
Another Summit for DaVinci Product Accomplishments
DaVinci Roofscapes manufactures natural-looking faux slate shingles with thick profiles, authentic rough edges and stone-like surface textures. Their faux shake shingles have deep-grained surfaces with realistic wavy and straight grains throughout just like natural rough hewn cedar. The company offers the industry's widest variety of slate and shake color blends, as well as industry-leading shingle thickness - 1/2-inch slate and 5/8-inch shake - more than twice the thickness of most others. Perhaps more important is that DaVinci's high-tech, proprietary mixtures, molds, processes and colorization produce shingles that authentically simulate natural material for look and beauty.
Miami-Dade acceptance is the frosting on the cake for a long list of DaVinci product highlights. In the past year, both DaVinci Slate and Shake received the highly-coveted acceptance of the ICC Evaluation Service, Inc., confirming compliance with the 2003 International Building Code® (IBC), the 2003 International Residential Code® (IRC) and the1997 Uniform Building Code™ (UBC).
Other outstanding durability features of DaVinci Slate and Shake include the highest fire rating Class A), the highest impact rating (Class 4), and the highest ratings for straight line wind testing at 110 mph. These features even can save homeowners money on insurance premiums. And, both DaVinci Slate & Shake come with a limited 50-year warranty.
DaVinci's proprietary manufacturing processes enable them to replicate the authentic look and subtle color variances of natural materials. They are color-through, infused with DaVinci's unique UV stabilizers, so they will resist fading. DaVinci offers the industry's widest variety of off-the-shelf slate color blends - 19 earth-tone colors and seven traditional blends in addition to solid gray and black. Their shake shingles are available in four standard wood-tone blends with multiple shades per blend for a natural look and authentic appearance every season of the year. They can customize blends to suit individual tastes, or even match or create an entirely new color.
