Shake Shingles Earn ICC-ES Acceptance
The sought-after, but hard-to-attain acceptance from the ICC-ES, under Criteria AC07, makes it easier for contractors, architects and designers to receive approvals and build or remodel roofs using DaVinci's engineered polymer faux shingles. The service evaluated DaVinci Slate and Shake properties including weather resistance, fire classification and wind resistance. According to Tim Gentry, DaVinci's director of technical services, obtaining ICC-ES acceptance is a complex, expensive and lengthy process, but the benefits to contractors and homeowners are worth the effort. "Many jurisdictions now require construction to comply with the IBC or UBC," says Gentry, "and codes officials in those jurisdictions enforce the need for ICC-ES approval of roofing products."
Gentry notes that ICC-ES acceptance has additional credibility because it must be re-examined for compliance every year. "It is one thing to get initial approval but it does not stop there. Maintaining ICC-ES acceptance requires constant attention to detail because this is an ongoing process with periodic inspections, testing and evaluation. So in effect ICC-ES provides independent validation of the quality of our products."
Because gaining and keeping an ICC-ES listing is so arduous, many architects and building contractors use ICC-ES acceptance as a stamp of approval for the products they evaluate and install. According to their web site, ICC-ES conducts unbiased, independent reviews by professional and technical staff that is rigorous, but fair. It is extremely thorough and therefore, thoroughly credible. Issuance of an evaluation report, says the web site, "provides clear evidence, respected by regulators and construction professionals across the United States, that your product complies with code."
"We're very proud to receive ICC-ES acceptance for both shake and slate," said DaVinci president and CEO Raymond Rosewall. "It is more evidence that our continuous efforts to produce the best products are paying off. Now customers and dealers can rest assured that both DaVinci Slate and Shake will meet, and often surpass, the most rigorous building codes or community requirements. This acceptance assures specifiers, contractors and homeowners that our products will perform reliably and that no problems will delay installation, even in the most exacting or exclusive communities."
Compliance Adds to Long List of Benefits & Accomplishments DaVinci Roofscapes manufactures natural-looking faux slate shingles with thick profiles, authentic rough edges and authentic surface textures. Their faux shake shingles have deep-grained surfaces with realistic wavy and straight grains throughout just like natural rough hewn cedar.
ICC-ES acceptance is only the latest good reason why building industry professionals are looking at DaVinci's new generation of high-quality shingles. They are the cost-effective, long-lasting solution for many roofing projects. DaVinci's high-tech, proprietary mixtures, molds, processes and colorization produce shingles that compare to natural material for look and beauty. The company offers the industry's widest variety of faux slate and faux shake color blends, as well as industry-leading shingle thickness - 1/2-inch slate and 5/8-inch shake - more than twice the thickness of most others.
To ensure its colors are the longest-lasting, DaVinci has spent years perfecting their proprietary processes. "Our 100% pure polymers, with UV protection embedded throughout each shingle, provide the best color-fastness in the industry," Rosewall says.
While the realistic look of DaVinci Slate and Shake is winning the hearts of contractors, architects and homeowners, its safety benefits and substantial cost-savings are winning their minds. Costs are saved initially, and over the roof's entire lifespan. Professional contractors can install DaVinci roofs with little training and no special labor, so installations are predictable and hassle-free, saving everyone time and money. DaVinci's factory pre-collated widths and blends produce a unique, beautiful roof, every time.
Facts are that homeowners can save at least half the installed cost of quarried slate or rough-hewn cedar over the life of the roof. And DaVinci roofs are practically maintenance free. Shingles don't curl, fade or crack. There's no treating required and no termites, silverfish or mold to eradicate. They won't absorb water, so there are no freeze-thaw issues. DaVinci includes a strong 50-year limited warranty.
DaVinci Slate and Shake provide enhanced home safety and durability too, including the highest fire rating (Class A), the highest impact rating (Class 4), and the highest ratings for wind resistance (110 mph). These can save homeowners even more money on insurance. "When building and remodeling pros compare the benefits of a DaVinci roof with any other alternative," says Rosewall, "they quickly see why we should always be considered. ICC-ES acceptance is one more very good reason choose DaVinci."
