Starrett Introduces Combination Protractor

ATHOL, MASSACHUSETTS U.S.A. (October 5, 2007)- The L.S. Starrett Company, a leader in precision measuring hand tools and inventor of the combination square, has now introduced a unique "5-In-1" combination tool for angle work. The new ProSite® CP505A-12 Combination Protractor provides fast, direct readings for:

    • Miter cuts
    • Single cuts
    • Compound cuts (with conversions for cutting crown molding)
    • Exact angle / supplemental angles
    • Roof pitch references

"Our new Combination Protractor is an invaluable tool for finish carpenters, builders and other tradesmen that require measuring and transferring angles" says Mr. Douglas A. Starrett, President and CEO of Starrett. "It eliminates mathematical calculations, guesswork and material waste, while saving time and providing reliable, accurate results. Like our multi-function combination squares, the 5-In-1 Combination Protractor provides a versatile, precise, innovative measuring solution.

The patented, American Made Combination Protractor is easy to use. For mitering or making single cuts for butt joints, the user simply adjusts the tool legs to the work surfaces, reads the angle on the dial face, sets the miter saw to the reading and makes an accurate, professional miter cut - all in a fraction of the usual time. The tool also features a handy compound cut conversion table for cutting crown molding as it lays flat in a compound miter saw. The user reads the miter cut conversion value and directly transfers it to the saw.

For simultaneously determining angle readings and supplemental angles, the tool has a protractor on the reverse side with 0 degree - 180 degree - 0 degree and 180 degree - 0 degree - 180 degree degree scales. In addition, quick references to common roof pitches can be determined by simply aligning the tool leg to the angle lines on the roof pitch scale.

The tool is constructed of precision-machined, rugged, 1/4" lightweight aluminum, designed to withstand demanding jobsite environments. The 12" scissor-action legs are optimally tensioned and feature a Teflon™ "O" ring for smooth, precise operation. The easy-to-read dial scales are laser-engraved for exceptional accuracy. An optional leather tool holster is also available.

The CP505A-12 will be available in November 2007 at a suggested retail price of $89.99 U.S. The tool will be available at selected dealers and retail outlets.

Starrett has been manufacturing high quality precision measuring tools, hand tools, tape measures, levels, saw blades and other professional jobsite tools for machinists and tradesmen for more than 125 years.
