Sto Corp. Combines the Best Stucco and Moisture Protection Systems for Sto Powerwall NExTNew Stucco System joins flexibility and power to create energy efficient cladding

    October 29, 2007 - ATLANTA, GA - Sto Corp., the innovative world leader in cladding, coating, and restoration systems, is leading a resurgence of new cladding technology for today's building marketplace by featuring a new cladding that incorporates the advantages of stucco and adds the best moisture protection system.

    More powerful than conventional stucco, Sto Powerwall® NExT employs a systems approach to building with stucco. Sto Powerwall NExT combined with StoGuard™, the company's spray-on waterproofing/air barrier, work together as a system to form a superior wall cladding. Sto EmeraldCoat, a part of the StoGuard product family, is a ready mixed, flexible waterproofing material that was specially formulated for use under Portland cement stucco and other claddings. It is applied directly to the wall sheathing and functions as a vertical, above grade waterproofing/air barrier when combined with Sto Gold Fill® and StoGuard® Mesh.

    Powerwall NExT Stucco System

    Sto Powerwall NExT weighs less and can be installed faster than conventional stuccos. According to Bryce Brandon, Market Manager for Sto Corp., Sto coatings and elastomeric finishes can bridge hairline cracks to keep moisture out - all of which add up to a more powerful cladding system.

    The system includes:
    * StoGuard spray-on waterproofing/air barrier featuring EmeraldCoat
    * Reinforcing layer: expanded galvanized diamond metal lath
    * Sto Powerwall scratch coat/brown coat
    * Finish: a flexible, acrylic-based, ready-mixed, water-based surface that is either smooth or textured.

    Sto Powerwall NExT depends on barriers like StoGuard to create an effective and economical means of controlling moisture in wall assemblies. By controlling moisture it helps to control mold growth in wall assemblies. Mold is a growing concern and StoGuard reduces the risk of condensation and mold caused by a leaking wall system. Not only does a system such as Sto Powerwall NExT, that combines stucco with an air barrier, control moisture and reduce the risk of mold, but it is also energy efficient. A recent study conducted by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) determined that air barriers are a cost effective measure to be installed in buildings. Most notably, the study showed that the energy savings ranged from 30 - 40 percent for heating climates and 10 - 15 percent for cooling climates.
