Axor by Hansgrohe Unveils Newest Collection From Designer Jean-Marie MassaudAxor Massaud: Nature-inspired design

ALPHARETTA, GEORGIA (NOVEMBER 12, 2007) - Axor, the designer brand from Hansgrohe, recently launched its tenth North American bath collection, which was created with internationally renowned French designer Jean-Marie Massaud. The Axor Massaud complete bathroom collection embodies the designer's organic approach to product design and his celebration of the simplicity and beauty of nature.

"For Jean-Marie, the feelings and needs of the individual are always the focus in his work," observes Axor Brand Manager Philippe Grohe, who worked closely with Massaud on the new collection. "His fascination with modern man's quest for an elemental connection to what is essential and natural is mirrored in Axor Massaud - a symbiosis between nature, man and the space in which he lives."

In the Axor Massaud collection, organic lines inspired by nature are brought into harmony with geometric forms of modern design. Cleverly concealed among the curved forms, straight edges and mesmerizing flow of water is the same state-of-the-art technology and high degree of functionality found in every Axor product.

The signature piece of the new collection is the lav mixer, which features an asymmetrical and expansive shelf-like surface, measuring nearly 16 inches wide. A delicate sheet of water cascades almost magically from the edge of the "shelf" into a white, molded-mineral wash bowl that is also part of the Axor Massaud collection. The slim base of the lav mixer bends upwards into a slight curve, reminiscent of a tall blade of grass. This item has already received the highly acclaimed International Forum (IF) Product Design Award, presented after its European debut in 2006.

Philosophy: "In recent years, we have seen a growing desire among urban people worldwide for a return to man's original relationship with nature," says Philippe Grohe. "This trend is the basis for Axor's vision of the modern bathroom as a space where we give shape to our emotions and where we can find -in the words of Massaud - 'a natural symbiosis with water.'"

As Massaud himself notes, "It's not that we need heating equipment; we want warmth. We don't need lamps; we want light. And we don't need plumbing fixtures; we want water!"

Massaud asserts that "design can arouse genuine feelings in people," but a person's physical and emotional well-being will flourish only when it is in harmony with the environment. "This is the reason Massaud always seeks a perfect balance between space and product," Philippe Grohe notes.

This balance is achieved when the components of the bathroom no longer appear as merely functional products. With Axor Massaud, faucets, fixtures, showers and accessories become unique ceremonial sculptures, dispossessed of technology as they connect the user to water, the source of all life.

Massaud's designs bring the simplicity and beauty of nature into a household environment. In this newly defined bathroom space, you can turn your back on daily routine and relax in complete harmony with your surroundings. Axor Massaud transforms the bath into a living space whose function extends beyond cleansing and hygiene to the sensual and emotional experience of water.
