Quality Cabinets Receives Highest Honor for Environmental Leadership

ADRIAN, Mich. - On Nov. 28, 2007, the Quality Cabinets manufacturing facility located in Mt. Sterling, Ky., part of the Masco Builder Cabinet Group (MBCG), was honored by the Kentucky Department for Environmental Protection (DEP) with the prestigious Master Level membership of its environmental leadership program, KY EXCEL.

The Mt. Sterling plant was recognized for its achievements in improving Kentucky's environment, increasing its environmental commitment and for reducing its carbon footprint.

To achieve DEP Master Level membership, companies are required to conduct four voluntary environmental projects a year. Mt. Sterling implemented the following projects in 2007:

*Applied for and received ISO 14001 Environmental Management Certification, a voluntary standard that helps companies identify, prioritize and manage its environmental risks in an effort to reduce the impact of operations on the environment, in December 2001. The certification progressed the plant to higher levels of reducing waste by reducing, recycling and reusing.

*A core team was established to sustain ISO, or waste reduction, action steps that continually drive environmental improvements.

*ISO action steps, such as recycling and installing energy efficient lighting, were posted in each plant department. All production team members are trained in ISO action steps, with continuous follow up on floor teaching and auditing.

*All Mt. Sterling team members were and are encouraged to use the ISO action steps at home and
    outside the plant.

"This award is important in our long-term environmental goals," said Steve Byron, Masco Builder Cabinet Group Managing Director of Engineering, Environmental and Safety. "In fact, we were the first kitchen cabinet company in the nation to be ISO 14001 Certified for environmental initiatives and now our Mt. Sterling manufacturing facility is the first within our organization to receive the highest honor "Master" award from the state's DEP and the Governor's office."

All facilities within the MBCG are charged with ongoing environmental initiatives to ensure the corporation as a whole can reduce environmental impact.

"Our strong commitment to the environment can be summarized in one phrase - Tomorrow's Thinking Today," said Karen Strauss, president, Masco Builder Cabinet Group. "Our mission is to instill a culture for our employees to be directly involved in developing business solutions that have a positive impact on the environment. In essence, thinking about tomorrow today."
