The FSC COC audit report found the Lynden plant to be a safe, efficient and progressive manufacturing operation. "Lynden Door's lean manufacturing initiatives are a perfect platform from which to launch Chain of Custody certification," commented Senior Vice President John Ridder. "Furthermore, the company's order flow, accounting and procurement processes all offer strong administrative support for Chain of Custody documentation."

"We welcome traceability as a fundamental of our overall manufacturing operation, and as a part of our dedication to corporate social responsibility," added Ridder.

Achieving FSC chain of custody certification is consistent with Lynden Door Inc.'s wood procurement policies and guidelines. "We believe that wood is the ideal choice for making high quality, durable doors. Our products make excellent use of wood's native characteristics and wood's long history as the material of choice for interior doors is evidence of this." stated Dick Moreno, Technical Administrator. "Sustainability, reinforced through FSC and their leadership in promoting well managed forests makes our wood doors even more appealing from an environmental perspective," Moreno concluded.

"Chain of custody" is the path taken by wood from the forest floor to the marketplace. Lynden Door's compliance with this standard means that Lynden Door Inc. has passed an initial audit by FSC-approved auditors and is subject to future audits. C of C certification affirms that the Lynden plant procures wood from responsibly managed forests.

John Ridder added, "Lynden Door is committed to ongoing growth of our environmentally intelligent product portfolio. We already have several exceptional 'green' products and strong working relationships with suppliers have allowed us to be environmental leaders in the door industry. We are now able to leverage those existing positive factors with our new certifications for even greater manufacturing flexibility.

Chain of Custody certification is a major, concrete example of our willingness to invest in meaningful environmental initiatives."

The Lynden Door facility was also certified by SGS under the protocols of Sustainable Forestry Initiative (US/07/SFI/051 NCS-SFICOC-052), an independent third-party certification scheme used widely in North America. "SFI gives us a measure of redundancy that assures we meet an extremely high standard and also opens up more certified timber resources to us," explained Dick Moreno. FSC and SFI are distinct bodies and are administered separately.

Sustainable Forestry Initiative is a single standard covering 135 million acres of certified forestland across North America.

The Forest Stewardship Council is an international organization that promotes sustainable management of the world's forests. The organization accredits third-party certifiers to ensure that forest products companies meet FSC principles and criteria for environmental, economic, and social standards.

Both Chain of Custody disciplines in Lynden were certified by The SGS Group, an organization founded in 1878 and the world's largest third-party inspection and verification firm. SGS operates in more than 140 countries with over 1180 offices.

Lynden Door Inc., established in 1978, is known for quality, competitive pricing and innovative design.
