In addition to standard hollow core construction, CMI offers CraftMaster Green Doors with a solid GreenLite™ fiberboard door core. The rigid, lightweight core provides the heft, weight and sound deadening properties of a solid wood door, plus it is made using wood obtained from forest lands that are certified by Sustainable Forestry Initiative.

CraftMaster Green Doors made with this sustainable solid core contain a minimum of 65 percent by weight, pre-consumer recycled content. Hollow core CraftMaster Green Doors contain a minimum of50 percent by weight, pre-consumer recycled content. All CraftMaster Green Doors have no added urea formaldehyde, and they produce very low formaldehyde and VOC emissions, exceeding the California Air Resources Board's Airborne Toxic Control Measure 93120.

"Because the building industry remains at the forefront of the green movement, there is strong demand for interior doors that maximize the Earth's natural resources without sacrificing quality and performance," said Bob Merrill, CMI's president and CEO. "By specifying CraftMaster Green Doors, builders and remodelers gain the environmental benefits consumers desire, while maintaining the beauty and functionality of molded door designs that resist shrinking, swelling, cracking and joint separation."

CraftMaster molded door designs, which are used to make CraftMaster Green Doors, have received Scientific Certification Systems' (SCS) certification for key green building elements. They also are certified to contain a minimum of 63 percent by weight, pre-consumer recycled content and have no added urea formaldehyde.

CMI uses sawmill chips generated as residual waste from sawmill operations and field chips tomake CraftMaster doors and molded door designs. Field chips are the residuals from field chippingoperations of tree tops and leftover wood. Left unused, this wood would simply rot or be sent to landfills.Instead, it is broken down into fibers, and then exposed to intense heat and pressure and converted intoengineered durable, beautiful wood products.

With the combination of environmentally friendly raw materials and sustainable manufacturing practices, CraftMaster Green Doors help building professionals contribute to important green building industry programs, including LEED® for Commercial Interiors, LEED for New Construction and MajorRenovations, LEED for Homes, NAHB's National Green Building Standard™.
