CertainTeed Insulation Plays Key Role Behind The Scenes at Miami's New Performing Arts Center

June 6, 2007 -- (Valley Forge, Pennsylvania) - In order to accentuate desired sounds and block the undesired, excellent acoustical control is a mandatory component in the success of any performing arts venue. One of the keys to optimal acoustics is good-quality sound control in the walls and ceilings.

CertainTeed® CertaPro™ AcoustaBoard™ Black, a rigid fiber glass acoustical insulation board, helped provide that kind of acoustic control needed for the Carnival Center for the Performing Arts, which opened in Miami late last year. The 570,000 square-foot entertainment complex, consisting of the Knight Concert Hall and Ziff Ballet Opera House, features 325,000 square feet of 2" CertaPro AcoustaBoard Black in its sidewalls and ceilings. Materials were provided by building products distributor All Interior Supply, of Hialeah, Florida, and installed by interior contractor Lotspeich Company, Inc., based out of Miami.

Providing excellent sound absorption, CertaPro AcoustaBoard Black controls room reverberations and echoes, which reduces noise levels and makes it ideal for theaters, studios and entertainment facilities. The black color of the rigid board's Class A surface absorbs light and is perfect when an interior needs to be dark.

The project also made good use of CertainTeed CertaPro fiber glass thermal insulation. Lotspeich Company insulated Carnival Center's wall cavities with 112,000 square feet of CertaPro R19 foil-scrim-kraft (FSK)-faced fiber glass batt and 45,000 square feet of CertaPro R11 unfaced fiber glass batt. CertaPro insulation improves acoustical properties in partition and exterior walls, contributing to a quieter interior environment. It also provides excellent thermal performance, thus saving energy.

"CertaPro AcoustaBoard and fiber glass batts are perfect for performing arts centers, as they help provide the acoustic control needed for audience members to have an enjoyable experience," says Jeff Templeton, Vice President & General Manager of CertainTeed Insulation Group. "We are thrilled to be a part of this project and helping provide top-notch acoustics for a wonderful new performance venue."
