These I-joists are made from Versa-Lam laminated veneer lumber. All of the grain is parallel to the length of the wood, with knots and other imperfections dispersed in the manufacturing process, according to the company. Most of the company's wood comes from SFI-certified forests and when installed, this manufacturer's engineered wood products use 50 percent less wood than ordinary lumber, the manufacturer says. Some dealers can precision end-trim to length based on exact dimensions, eliminating waste.
