Joining the company's line of soundproofing drywall products is QuietRock 525, which provides the same amount of noise reduction as eight layers of standard 5/8-inch drywall. "I wish this had been available when we did our offices," a judge said wistfully. Using the panels on one side of a single-stud wall results in a sound transmission rating of 51, compared with a rating of 34 for standard gypsum drywall. It scores, snaps, and hangs like standard drywall, and it weighs about the same, the firm says. The three-layer fabrication consists of viscoelastic polymers, ceramics, and gypsum, and it is one-hour fire-rated. Cost: $80 to $90 per sheet. 800-797-8159. More
